Role of Women in Islam
A woman's role in Islam is thought to be controversial based off of historical encounters with Muhammad, the word of the Quran, and what today's media portrays. According to numerous historical sources, women played a major role in the early days of Islam as they supposedly helped Muhammad in the spreading of Islam. Certain parts of the Quran specify that a woman is to be a servant to men and that their job is in a sense to please the man. Unfortunately, today's media portrays women as submissive and abused by men. Islam tends to be patriarchal for the most part so in today's society that puts women below men when it comes to social status.
