Islam's Impact On Art and Architecture
Islamic architecture derives originally from Iranian or Persian architecture from its ancient times. Typically Islamic architecture can be seen primarily through mosques, tombs, palaces, forts, or other Islamic government facilities. Pictured to the right is the Dome of the Rock located in Jerusalem, it is thought that this is where Muhammad ascended into heaven from. Islamic art took off during the 7th century when Islam began to spread. Islamic art is typically seen through calligraphy, this is because most Muslims think it is not appropriate to have images of sacred prophets, so people are not typically portrayed in Islamic art.
